Danny Cipriani “Shocked” At Being Over Drink Driving Limit
England Rugby star, Danny Cipriani has told the cover that he was “shocked” to find out he was over the drink driving limit when he was breathalysed in June last year.
Cipriani was driving his Mercedes Benz at around 5am when it collided with a taxi.
When he was arrested, he was described as smelling of alcohol and having glazed eyes.
The court has also heard that he had drunk 2 espresso martinis and a glass of champagne an hour before he got behind the wheel.
The Wasps player, was playing for Sale Sharks at the time of the incident.
When he was breathalysed he gave a reading of 67mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The current legal limit is 35mg.
In giving evidence, Cipriani told the court that he had been out drinking and eating sushi with other England players after their win against The Barbarians.
He has also stated that he felt “fine” and was not drunk.
Cipriani described his males as being: “…a lot of rice, some dim sum. I eat a fair bit. We probably had double orders on what we were having.”
Following dinner he then went to a club before going on to a friends house. He left at 4am to have breakfast.
Cipriani also told the court that as well as a “fry up” breakfast he had a small flute of champagne and 2 expresso martinis. These were drug within 45 minutes of him getting into a taxi to pick up his car.
